Program evaluation and review technique or can be defined as PERT is a statistic tools that usually used in project management to schedule, organize coordinate tasks and provide a project graphical representation timeline. PERT it will break down a projects task into individual task to be analysis. PERT will analysis how many times do each task needed to complete their work and also identify the minimum time that needed to complete the whole program or project. The advantage of using this PERT method is it able to be scheduling the time of a project without know the detail of a project. This method usually is used for a situation where time is important than cost and usually will applied to a very large scale and complex project. This method was created by US navy in year 1958.
The graph that used by PERT to represent the project milestones is called as PERT graph. It usually will use lines to link with the nodes that represent those individual tasks. IN PERT graph, they separate all the individual task into two group such as serial tasks and parallel tasks.

From the above diagram, we can see that the arrow is draw from task 1 to task 2 and continue to task 8 and task 10. This means that the task need to be complete in a sequence and it called as Serial Tasks or Dependent tasks. For Parallel tasks, it can be see from the task 1-2 and task 1-3. Both of these are not dependent and it can be undertaken by other.
For those task that need to be complete in a sequence but did not require calculation of completing time are considered as event dependency. While for those task with dotted lines such as task 6 to task 9 are called as dummy activities.
